Top-level and contributor README text now mention layout as well as width when
hooks gate commits.

Long commit subjects and bullets are hard to read in narrow terminals and
mailed logs. Contributors using `.githooks` via core.hooksPath now get an
automatic guard in addition to the two-file pre-commit cap.
- Add `.githooks/commit-msg` to fail when any message line exceeds 80 chars
- Skip length checks while `.git/MERGE_HEAD` exists for merge commits
- Sync AGENTS.md, README.md, CONTRIBUTING.md, and commit.prompt.md
Replace outdated badges and roadmap prose with the current 2.0 focus areas,
installation notes, and pointers to AGENTS.md. Rewrite CONTRIBUTING as a
concise fork/test/layer-contract checklist aligned with the repo layout.
- README: drop stale Travis/Gitter stack; document legacy module caveat
- CONTRIBUTING: remove Quarto front matter; link architecture_layers checker
- Expanded contributing text with clearer call to action
- Added links to CONTRIBUTING.md, coding standards, and contributor manual
- Added key requirements list (type stability, tests, Greek letter rule, clean commits)
- Fixed code block syntax highlighting (markdown → text) for Zen and citation
- Improved formatting with proper newlines before code blocks
- Added friendly questions/help invitation
After a long silence, taking the first step back.
What happened (2018-2025):
We built something ambitious together. Life happened. Projects diverged.
Relationships fractured. The code sat silent while Julia evolved past us.
What changed (November 2025):
Wounds heal. Perspective grows. The work we did together still matters.
Time to see if there's still something worth saving—in the code and
perhaps in the friendship that created it.
Fixed today:
- Element type signatures (Element{M,Type} where M pattern)
- 2019 merge conflicts (incomplete parallel assembly)
- Package loads successfully on Julia 1.12.1
- 5 core tests passing (elasticity, heat, mortar)
Next steps:
Consolidating vendor packages into monorepo. Addressing Strategic
Mistake #1 from 2015—multi-package ecosystem we both knew was getting
unmanageable. Better late than never to admit we were right about that.
No timeline promises. Hobby pace. But the lights are back on, and the
door is open.
